2013 - Wardrobe In Review
Well…I did it! I posted my daily outfits for one year. A few days late, but I did manage to go through my entire closet and I piled everything I wore vs. didn’t wear and that’s what you see here. Both left piles are what I did not wear: either they didn’t fit, I didn’t like, bought new and never had the chance to wear, etc. I didn’t get rid of AS many clothes as I wanted to coming out of this process, but I did make a small pile of about 15 items or so that I will donate. In case you are interested in numbers like I am, I went through and actually counted everything (minus lounge/exercise wear).
65% of the dresses in my closet
60% of my skirts
86% of my capris/pants (basically anything non “jean”)
100% of my shorts (I only have three pairs left, I think I donated a few earlier in the summer)
100% of my jeans (I had tossed out several pairs of jeans at the beginning of the year after my muffin-top post and now have 11 in total)
81% of my tops (the total number of tops I have is outrageous, I expected this percentage to be higher, but that’s what you get when you keep adding to your closet)
86% of my jackets/sweaters (I have added many items to this category throughout the year, as well thrown out ones that were ill-fitting or worn out)
Overall, I can definitely say I wore a majority of my closet. I made my piles first on memory (wore, didn’t wear, couldn’t remember) and then used my blog to help sort out that third pile. Most of the clothes I didn’t wear were spring/summer clothes and were purchased at the end of the season this year. A new city also played a role in what I wore/didn’t wear since the weather is different and now I have a full-time job (although my dress-code at work is casual, only occasionally business-casual).
I only misplaced one pair of red pants to my knowledge. Still searching for those. They were last seen when I ironed them back in October.
1. Donate clothing monthly to help purge this wardrobe. I currently use three out of five closets in my apartment for clothing/shoes.
2. Shoes! I need to do a shoe analysis and get rid of shoes as well. I know I didn’t wear a majority of my shoes. I tend to “collect” shoes and never wear them.
Now that this blog has reached its challenge, I will still continue to post but the content will be more about outfits I like/shopping finds, etc. I realized I was buying [more] clothes instead of re-wearing what I had in my closet because I didn’t want to double post, which kind of defeated the ultimate purpose of the blog.
